Status Report

It's been about a month since my last update, so I thought it would be a good idea to post and say that I'm still alive, and still making progress on the next 3RVX. :)

I just recently got the parts dealing with Aero glass finished and have most of the basic functionality down. The challenge now is getting all the different components talking to each other and create a GUI for changing settings.

Development has been taking a while, and I'm sorry that I'm not progressing very fast. On the other hand, I feel like the new version is much better designed than the last, and will hopefully be much less buggy than 2.5.

Last but not least, I have created a couple new pages: 3RVX Skins and 3RVX Languages. If you'd like me to include your language/skin, then upload it somewhere and post a link in the comments. Sorry it's taken so long to get these up (and I will hopefully have a little more user-friendly interface for it in the future!)

Edit: adding a link to the status page, which I will keep updating.

Edit2 (Feb 8th): Still chugging along, detailed update with screenshots tomorrow.

Better to have an app better than an app sooner. That being said, I greatly look forward to the next release.

    @mitraleks, great job! Nice skin!!!

Great work! Works like a charm on Windows 7. Great on screen display for volume and other system operations. Thanks and keep up the good work!

    Hi Matthew,

I'd like to contribute Thai translation. But I can't seem to find the translation template.

So if it's here somewhere, please point me to it :)

Hey man, just wanted to thank you for a great program (3RVX). I had been using an AutoHotKey script for keyboard Windows Volume Control, but once I installed Windows 7, it was just too slow... found your program after a Google search and I am so glad that I did.

  8. MobileEMP

I would just like to say that 3rvx is incredible. Keep up the amazing work. All of the new features are going to blow the previous version out of the water.

That being said, you said it was being written in win32, will that have any affect on its compatibility with Win7 64bit?

  9. +Matthew

@Pilot, I'm glad you think so, that's my thinking :)

@Mitja: that shouldn't be too hard, but I don't want to make any near-term promises since I have so much else on the 'to do' list. I will add it though.

@mitraleks, I hope you're fine with me posting the skins here, they look good :)

@kong -- I posted the template in the language listing.

@MobileEMP, I will be releasing a native 64 bit build as well.

  10. kong

@Matthew, I got a 403 forbidden when trying to download the template file.

  11. +Matthew

Sorry about that. Should be fixed now!

I used GibStorm's Danish translation as a reference for some sentences I was unsure about, hope he doesn't mind.

Matthew, you've done a great job with 3RVX and don't hesitate to contact me if you need any future translations.

    Hi,

I'm a big fan of your 3RVX!! from Korea.
I made my own version of korean language xml file and am using it.
It'll be helpful for Korean users of your program if you include Korean language xml file into your distribution.

    http://cherrie.tistory.com/attachment/cfile27.uf@1806AB044B61C0266FE72D.xml

And it'd be my big pleasure if I can help you have korean translation of next version of 3RVX and the other programs you will make as well.

Thank you always for sharing your incredible work with everyone. :)

Just letting you know your software is great and looking forward to your next release!

  18. Niklas

    Hey Matt,
This program is awesome, using the mac theme with win7 btw. Just letting you know, lot's of people probably don't really need all the extra features, but would want to install the new version just for the brightness indicators. Is there any chance you could have a "Lite" version to only include, volume, eject, and brightness controls? I know a few other people who use this, and that's what we are mainly looking for. Also, a big program will take up lots of process and is prone to error.
Anyway, good luck on the progress, and many thanks for what you have created so far.
    Cheers, Nik

Matt has already addressed this issue. He said he is planning on releasing the skin with the most basic features, then including the other ones as plugins that are optional.

  21. Brandon

    Hey Matthew,

Thanks for the great app! I've been looking for an on-screen volume control that looks just like the Mac OS X one.

I do have a somewhat serious problem though. After installing your program and restarting my computer, to this day whenever I try to play something in windows media player or manually edit the sound level (right clicking the sound icon in the taskbar and moving the slider) it always freezes and I have to force the process to end.

This is a bit frustrating for me due to the fact that I use windows media player practically everyday, and if I don't use 3RVX it works fine.

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium on a Dell Studio laptop. I've disabled Dell QuickSet from starting, so those shouldn't be conflicting each other...

I'm rather "stuck in the mud" if you say so, and would greatly appreciate any feedback you may have.

Thanks again for the great app!

    -Brandon

  22. +Matthew

Hey everybody, sorry about all the comment spammers. I need to fix that soon but I figure my time is better spent on 3RVX for now. I didn't make a whole lot of progress last week but made up for it over the weekend. Things are starting to come together a little faster...

Eugen, Syn, Salo, Javad, and Jake, thanks so much for the skins & translations! And, thanks to everyone else for feedback/comments/etc.

@Brandon, sorry about that, that's a weird bug. When I finish the next version you'll have to let me know if it still does it.

@Niklas, just to add to what Jake already said, I aim to not let the app get too bloated. The new version is designed so that features that are turned off never use any RAM or other resources (apart from a few KB on disk)

  23. RICK

I'm getting an error message when I try to load...SKalc...,it reads: There was an error drawing the skin: Font 'Lucida Sans' does not support style 'Bold'. Would you like to load the default skin? When I click YES or NO,it does nothing !!! Could you please e-mail me if you no how to fix this? Sincerely,R.C.

    Hi, i used 3RVX on win 7. Its gr8.Thanx a lot.
Do you have such controllers with on screen display for brightness(Mac style)?

  26. Brandon

    Matthew,

I believe the problem I had with having to force the processes to end was due to out of date Microsoft .NET framework.

I updated to the 3.5 framework and it works fine now!

    Thanks for this great app!

First of all, thank you for such a wonderful app.
Controlling volume is finally lag-free in Windows 7, and I've been using your program since v2 on my XP machine!

I believe you should promote your program a bit more, since I stumbled upon it myself when I asked a poster on some forums what that thing on the screenshot was.

    Looking forward to v3!

    Great piece of freeware.
    Keep up the good work.

Looking forward to see the next version.

  31. Jake

    Hey Matt-

Not sure if you've addressed this already, or if it's possible now, but I'd love for 3RVX to be able to play a sound when you change the volume using the slider.

  32. Joshua

    Matt --

Any chance you can at least release a BETA of the new version sometime soon??

  33. matthias

hello, 3rvx is constantly loosing hotkey association(s) , I always have to open the program and hit save. (win 7, choosing various hotkey combinations, all get lost and are not used by another programme) please note that I "encrypted" my email! you have to add "mail" after the "p"!

Amazing job with 3RVX. Can't wait to see the next version! Keep on making this, It's so helpful to have a OSD of drives being ejected, volume level, and other useful stuff. Kudos to you.

    Camo~

  36. Darkfire

Thank you so much for this program. I recently upgraded to Windows 7 and was dismayed to find that while the multimedia buttons and volume slider on my old MX Duo keyboard still worked, the fact that Logitech's ancient iTouch software wouldn't install meant I lost the onscreen volume display when I used the slider. Maybe not the most important of things to have, but customizability is why we all bought PCs in the first place ;) Keep up the great work!

  37. EdvardsMC

    Same problem as "matthias" !
Waiting for the next release! :) Keep it up!

  38. Steve

    GREAT tool.
My only suggestion is when I have volume muted, and I increase/decrease volume, I want to leave it muted, but see where the volume would be when i unmute. So don't actually unmute when I increase/decrease, just put me at the level I leave it at, and when I unmute, it is now at that level.
